Frequently asked questions.

What makes The Blue Door different?

We are a small private practice that values clinical honesty and personalized treatment approaches. The care we deliver is comprehensive and exceptional because you and your baby deserve the best there is to offer. Our providers are not only experts in their fields but the care they provide is intentional. Our sessions are always 1:1 and leave you feeling educated and empowered.

If I book an appointment for myself, can I bring my baby?

We understand how difficult the postpartum period (& toddlerhood) can be. Getting out of the house can be difficult and finding childcare can present it’s own challenges so, yes you can bring your little. We even have a few toys they can play with while we help mama achieve her goals!

What does the initial appointment look like?

For baby:

You’ll consult with a feeding and developmental specialist and go over medical history, the symptoms baby is experiencing, and you goals for development or feeding. Then an assessment is conducted of oral motor function, tongue or lip ties (if applicable) and we observe a feeding if necessary. A whole-body assessment of mobility, strength, and body tension is conducted to ensure all bases are covered. You will leave with exercises and/or stretches to perform with baby to kickstart your progress starting session one!

Weighted feeds, flange fittings, pump selection, and more can be utilized!

For mom:

We begin with a thorough discussion of your medical history and goals for your plan of care. An assessment of your posture, core strength, and movement mechanics is conducted. We go over any movement you are currently doing or movement you desire to do! A pelvic floor muscle assessment is conducted if you consent to gain an understanding of your strength, coordination, and how they play a role in your symptoms. You leave with items to focus on so that you can see progress quickly and efficiently!

We recommend you wear something you are comfortable moving around in (leggings, athlesiure, work-out gear).

I have seen/am scheduled to see a lactation consultant, should I still get an infant feeding evaluation?

A lactation consult typically helps with things such as milk supply, flange fitting, pump selection, and positioning to obtain that perfect latch. While we work collaboratively with all members of your team, if your baby experiences symptoms such as colic, constipation, tongue or lip tie, excessive spit up, arching after feeds, exhaustion during feeds, clicking during feeds, mucous in poop, rashes/eczema, general discomfort/body tension, difficulty with tummy time, snoring while sleeping, open mouth posture then a fully body infant feeding evaluation should be conducted. This evaluation will address oral motor skills, body tension and strength, digestive discomfort, nervous system regulation, airway health, developmental milestones and more

Both of our expert therapists on staff are trained in the whole body approach to infant feeding and look at gut health, airway and motor milestone development, and more to ensure that no stone is left unturned.
